Okay, so in my quest to become better at every aspect of this game, I've decided to try running a monk, and heal the heck out of everything.

I only have factions though, but I think I should still be able to play a monk decently, right?

I would like to be able to do a bit of damage, as i'm only really playing PvE, and use henches a lot of the time.. .but its not really mandatory.

Furthermore, I know NOTHING about monks, other than the fact that I die a lot less with one in the party.

Oh, and I would like something for all situations, like Healer, prot, and Smiting(all in different builds obviously) Or maybe a heal/smite if its at all plausible. I planned on taking /E but if thats a bad choice, then anything you can recomend, thanks.

Monks are for healing. The smiting line is nearly useless, aside from a few select skills.

Monks are for healing. Nothing else. Take a look around to forums to snag a few builds. Honestly, it's PvE, so it's not too hard to come up with something effective. As you play through the game, you will learn what is good and bad. Go start one and enjoy the surprise instead of ruining it here!

Smiting Prayers doesn't have a great deal of useful skills. The other problem is that most of the skills that are useful are very energy-intensive. If you were determined to use it, and it does have a number of very powerful skills, you could tap the elementalist or mesmer lines for energy management. Alternatively, you could run smiting prayers on an elementalist with a powerful energy management skill like energy boon.

elementalist is a very good choice of secondary.
I'm starting a faction monk, and I'm playing prot with a splash of healing.
I recommend something like:

Starter:
Reversal of fortune
Signet of devotion
Gift of health (only healing spell in the bar= no drawback)
shielding hands
Protective spirit
Glyph of lesser energy
Condition removal
Holy Veil

Later:
Reversal of fortune
Signet of devotion
Gift of health (only healing spell in the bar= no drawback)
Blessed Light
Protective spirit
Glyph of lesser energy
Condition removal
Holy Veil

On the later build I would drop Holy veil for deny hexes and drop signet of devotion for signet of rejuvenation as i think it provides better heal when needed.

i would rop the veil for denie, yes i love pre veil but with al that divine spells in deni becomes a better choice. but keep si, for 1 it helps remove another hex with deny and 1 rejuvenation will b disabled with gift

There are only 1 or 2 skill that are good in Factions for smiting Monks which is a solo career in GW as no one wants a smiter.The better skills are in Prophecies and Nightfall especially elites.If you wanted to do damage you could of picked Rit as channeling is good for that or Elementalist.
